THE THIEF is situated on Tjuvholmen (Thief Island), a new cultural and urban development in Norway’s capital of Oslo.
THE THIEF is an unusual new-build construction, far from the traditional notion of what a luxury hotel ought to look like. “A complicated construction like THE THIEF has had a long maturation phase. The outcome is a modern rendition of an international luxury hotel, with a strong, mystic character to complement the neighbouring Astrup Fearnley Museum by star architect Renzo Piano.”
Art is what defines the experience of THE THIEF. With Swedish art historian, Sune Nordgren as THE THIEF’S curator, he has assembled together a combination of art for the public area and rooms, using works from the from both celebrated artists such as Sir Peter Blake, Richard Prince, Magne Furuholmen, Camilla Löw and Kjell Nupen, as well as art borrowed from the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art.
THE THIEF cost more per room to build than any hotel in Scandinavia, and it shows. But it’s not just about the luxurious down-duvet bedding, rainfall showers or Antonio Citterio armchairs. It’s the little details that make all 119 rooms special, be they the custom-designed wool slippers and bathrobes, blankets to keep you warm on the balcony, verbena tea at turn-down service or the handpicked collection in the minibar.
All the rooms also have monumental glass facades to take advantage of the view and to let in as much daylight as possible.
Restaurant & Bar
Four of Oslo’s top ten restaurants can be found on Thief Island, and THE THIEF’S restaurant Fru K is on track to becoming the fifth. Putting a spin on conscious cooking and classic Norwegian cuisine, head chef Kari Innerå has kept a strong focus on regional, local and organic ingredients. With a vision to revive the wild and pure flavours from growing up on a farm, Innerå’s regularly changing menu makes the most of nature’s seasonal offerings.
The ROOFTOP champagne and wine bar is also the perfect place to relax with panoramic views of Oslo during the summer months.
THE THIEF currently offers guests access to spa facilities 1000 metres away from the hotel. In the meantime, a THIEF SPA is currently being built with a scheduled opening in 2014. The 750 sqm spa will offer a 12-metre pool, experience showers, various saunas, five treatment rooms; one being a VIP total make-over room, complete beauty lounge, spa-shop, fitness area and spa bar.
Complimentary wifi in all areas of the hotel.
Breakfast is a treat to look forward to when staying at THE THIEF. There is a mix of healthy Norwegian breads and freshly made yoghurt, fresh fruits, or the slap-up full-breakfast. It’s up to you, but I had both…in one go!
