The main building is from the 13th century. The owners purchased this hamlet in 2001, when it was just a dilapidated farm property with muddy grounds. It was renovated over a period of seven years and the villa opened as a hotel in 2008. It has been expanding with more rooms each year, and became part of the Relais Chateau association of hotels in 2013.
The 13 acres of grounds have been planted with 250,000 new trees and plants, and are constantly evolving into new areas. A bio-pond has been constructed in 2014 and will soon have a swimming pool in its center. A tennis court and trampoline are available. An infinity pool with a view of rolling Tuscan hills is located near the main villa.
Valle Serena – Toscanità e Innovazione: the gourmet restaurant with head chef Francesco Gasbarro offers international fare that varies with the seasons. All foods are locally grown or when possible grown on the grounds. Currently a vegetable garden and fruit trees provide most of the ingredients required, while soon chickens and pigs will complete the “farm”.
Tree House Brasserie and Bar: a casual dining experience near the pool, open all day. On Monday nights, dinner is served here with live music and simulates a Farmers’ Market, at which guests choose ingredients which are then prepared in front of them by the chefs.
Trattoria Tradizionale: opening in 2015 will be a restaurant offering a more traditional Tuscan cuisine.
Spa services are offered in an 800 year old bakery that Departures Magazine has dubbed the best one-room spa in Europe. The spa uses products from Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella; one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. A new spa building is intended to open in 2015.
Free wifi is provided for hotel guests.
The Borgo Gourmet Breakfast is an experience you’ll want to make last all day! Small, fresh pastries, fresh picked fruits diced into small cubes, berries from the garden, home-made jams, quiches and salmon are on the buffet, while you can order eggs or crêpes.
